One Man’s Trash is Another Man’s Treasure

Happy new week!

Today, I’m sharing stays made from unexpected objects and structures.

What can become a unique stay?

Anything, or almost anything.

I hope this article opens your imagination to what’s possible.

Maybe you already have an old plane in your backyard, or a friend has an old bus they’d love to get rid of.

In the end, one person’s trash is another person’s treasure.

10 cool items you can turn into unique stays:

1. Wine barrels: Quinta da Pacheca, Portugal

Oversized barrel suites set among the Douro vines. Immersive, cozy, and on theme.

I especially like how cohesive and immersive the concept is, fully tied to the vineyard experience.

2. Grain silos: SiloStay, New Zealand

Cylindrical, compact apartments with smart layouts and strong visual identity.

The modular design stays efficient while still feeling warm and memorable.

3. Water tower: Wasserturm Hotel Cologne, Germany
A historic tower reborn as a modern hotel inside the city grid.
I like how the redesign preserves the landmark while upgrading rooms and views.

4. Shipping containers: Quadrum Hotel, Georgia
Stacked modules with clean lines and wide mountain views. Modern yet minimal, perfectly framed against the slopes.
The design reuses industrial containers to create a warm, geometric retreat.

5. Airplane: 727 Fuselage Home, Hotel Costa Verde, Costa Rica
A Boeing set on a jungle ridge with a wing deck over the canopy.
Memorable because the fuselage frames the treetops and becomes a standout suite.
Here is a short video about this one.

6. Restored bus: The Bus Stop, Scotland
A farm-set bus conversion with wood-fired tubs and starry-night views.
I like how the bus keeps its character while adding comfort and rural charm.

7. Lighthouse: Harlingen Lighthouse, Netherlands
A working beacon turned one-of-a-kind suite above the harbor.
Standout feature: panoramic views and a strong sense of place.

8. Helicopter: Sea King Helicopter Glamping, Scotland
A decommissioned rescue chopper refit for families on a scenic platform.
Great for families, with a cockpit lounge and playful layout.

9. Oil rig: Seaventures Dive Rig, Malaysia
An offshore platform transformed into a diver base with easy drop-ins.
I like the direct water access and wraparound sea views.

10. Harbor crane: Crane Hotel Faralda, Amsterdam, Netherlands
An industrial crane converted to sky-high suites with a hot tub at the top.
Serious wow factor from the skyline panorama and dramatic height. Not sure if I could stay at that one, too afraid of heights!

Hope these 10 unique stays opened your mind to what is possible.

That's all for today and have a wonderful week!
